Medicine is all around us.
I connect plants with people.
Welcome! I’m Caitlin McCabe, bio-regional herbalist and wild medicine forager.
Plants have always been called “the people’s medicine” and that’s my belief about plants and herbs as well. Knowing how to help your body isn’t for a select few, it’s a knowledge that humans have had for thousands of years and only recently have we entrusted almost all of our health decisions to large companies. We can ALL learn to use what’s around us to help us be our healthiest selves.
What’s It Like Working With An Herbalist?
First Things First
We will do our first meeting over coffee either in person or via Zoom. Prior to our meeting I will have sent you an online form to fill out about what things you’d like to work on together. Based on your responses, I will ask you questions to start determining how I can help and which plants might support you. I’ll want to know things like “do you like tea?” (don’t worry - that’s not the only way to use herbs and I’m a coffee girl myself), how long have these challenges been going on?, and questions about your daily energy levels.
We can work on just one area or we can work on several at a time. Some examples of typical things we can work on are arthritis, viruses, hormonal migraines / imbalance, anxiety and depression, and eczema.
Custom Plans
When you have a diagnosis for a health challenge, it gives you a name for what’s wrong, but not the cause. Plants and food work with your body’s natural healing ability (which we ALL have! Your body does want to heal itself) .
I will help you find your specific plant allies and the best way for your body to get them. This process can take some time depending on how long you’ve had your specific problem (Lyme infection for 10 years vs. hair loss starting 6 months ago. )
I am a big fan of taking as FEW herbs and supplements as possible so will often choose one or two at a time to start with.
Long Term Health
Some herbs and plants will be totally new but many things can be found right at your supermarket! I like to look at the most local and native plants as possible as they are easy to access and often support local farmers.
We will more than likely work on getting your herbs and plants into your food as well as in tea or tincture form. Why? Because it’s more natural and much tastier that way! Longevity and immune health is a bit of a balancing act so we will also work to strengthen and support your own body’s response to pathogens and disease.
